Volleyball Recap: Winside Comes Up Short

After flying high against Stuart on Thursday, Winside came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell just short of the Homer Knights by a score of 2-1 on Monday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 back in September.

Despite the defeat, Winside saw an underclassman step up: freshman Aftyn Schutt had 14 digs, five kills, five aces, and four blocks. Those five aces set a new season-high mark for Schutt. Ellie Topp was another key player, getting seven digs, two blocks, and two aces.

Winside's loss dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Homer, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Winside has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 win against Osmond on the 20th. As for Homer, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Wynot on the 20th.
