Football Recap: Benjamin Russell Comes Up Short on the Road Against Opelika + How To Watch

Benjamin Russell kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 25-20 to the Opelika Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 28-14 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kingston Preyear, who threw for 246 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 12.3 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 51 yards. A healthy portion of Preyear's aerial production (177 yards to be exact) went to Cederian Morgan, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Blake Johnson was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 41 yards and two TDs, and also picked up 44 receiving yards. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played.

Looking ahead, Benjamin Russell will welcome Central of Clay County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Opelika, they will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Callaway at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
