Recap: Paul VI Panthers vs. Bishop Ireton Cardinals
The Paul VI Panthers were the 41-0 winner over the Bishop Ireton Cardinals when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Paul VI fell 26-14 to Bishop Ireton on Saturday. Paul VI's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Paul VI saw an underclassman step up: Tanner Wiles picked up 60 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Omar Diallo was a one-man wrecking crew for Bishop Ireton as he rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 119 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 passes. Diallo's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.
Paul VI's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Bishop Ireton, their victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Paul VI will face off against Saint John Paul the Great Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Saint John Paul the Great Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Paul VI is ranked 75th). As for Bishop Ireton, they will head out on the road to face off against Bishop O'Connell at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
