Volleyball Recap: Southampton Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Bryce Holland and Emery Watson

Southampton Academy was the 3-0 winner over Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Raiders fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday.

The 3-2 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Southampton Academy lost were decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 16-25, 15-13.

Southampton Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Emery Watson, who had 14 digs, and Bryce Holland, who had 11 kills, four digs, and one block. Holland is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had eight or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot found their leader in sophomore Avery Poore, who had 24 digs and three aces. Those 24 digs set a new season-high mark for Poore. Leila Purdum also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Southampton Academy now has a losing record of 9-10-1. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Southampton Academy has already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Tidewater Academy on the 2nd. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Banner Christian on the 2nd.
