Baseball Recap: Murfreesboro Starts off Right with Win over Prescott

Murfreesboro had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Prescott Curley Wolves 22-1 on Monday. This was payback for the Rattlers, who suffered a 6-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Laytan Wilcher and Brody Maroon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wilcher tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Maroon tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Wilcher scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Maroon fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4.

In other batting news, Murfreesboro let Kale Burns and Isaac Kuykendall run wild. Burns scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Kuykendall scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Alex Bonner, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Murfreesboro will venture away from home to take on Jessieville at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Prescott, they will face off against Nashville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
