Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Takes a Loss

Notre Dame Prep had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 13-19 to make it five. They came up short against the Brookfield Bobcats, falling 11-1. The Lancers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bobcats from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Notre Dame Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Colon, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Brookfield, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 17-1. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Brookfield's side, Matt McDowell made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). McDowell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Brookfield let PJ Colla and AJ Baum run wild. Colla went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Baum went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave Colla a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Murray, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Notre Dame Prep will challenge Darien at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Brookfield, they will be playing at home against New Milford at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
