Baseball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Garnet Valley on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 5-4. The Cougars have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Jake Lennon made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Kai Scheetz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Garnet Valley, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-5.

Coming up, Springfield will square off against Marple Newtown at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fightin Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Garnet Valley, they will host Haverford at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Jaguars 2.9, the Fords 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
