Basketball Recap: Valencia Jaguars vs. St. Pius X Sartans
After flying high against the Los Alamos Hilltoppers last Thursday, the Valencia Jaguars came back down to earth. Valencia ended up on the wrong side of a tough 60-34 walloping at the hands of the Sartans on Tuesday. If Valencia was looking for revenge after losing 62-43 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Valencia's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Damian Estrada, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Carin Bustillos who scored ten points along with two steals. Bustillos continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jared Porter was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Valencia's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for St. Pius X, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Highland the next time they take the court. Valencia will host the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Sartans will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
