Basketball Recap: Mesick Comes Up Short

Mesick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 63-29 loss at the hands of the Crossroads Charter Academy Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 633rd, while the Cougars are ranked 298th).

Despite the defeat, Mesick saw an underclassman step up: freshman Madi Putney posted 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 58.6% of Mesick's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Mesick's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Crossroads Charter Academy, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Mesick will host Grand Traverse Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Grand Traverse Academy's defense has only allowed 26 points per game this season, so Mesick's offense will have their work cut out for them. Crossroads Charter Academy has already played their next contest (against Holton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
