Basketball Recap: Austin Foley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southmont over Tri-West Hendricks

Southmont has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 68-60 to the Tri-West Hendricks Bruins on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), the Mounties still had to take the loss.

Several Mounties players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Austin Foley, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Foley is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Vince Reimondo was another key player, putting up 17 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Southmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tri-West Hendricks to victory, but perhaps none more so than Wes Ward, who went 5 for 6 to rack up 15 points and five blocks. Ward is becoming a predictor of Tri-West Hendricks' success: when he posts at least three blocks the team is 5-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ryan Miller, who went 6 of 14 en route to 14 points and seven assists.

Southmont's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Tri-West Hendricks, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Southmont has already played their next contest (against Parke Heritage), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Tri-West Hendricks, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-50 win against Martinsville on the 8th.
