Baseball Recap: Dolores Wins Going Away Against Sargent

Dolores came out on top against Sargent on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Bears blew past the Farmers 11-3. For the Bears, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 victory the Farmers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2019.

Levi Hampton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Dolores: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-15 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gus Vaughn, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Kiddoo, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Dolores and bumps their season record up to 3-15. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Sargent, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Farmers beat Dolores by a score of 5-4 later that day.
