Recap: Lecanto Panthers vs. Leesburg Yellow Jackets

It was a good run, but the Lecanto Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 60-35 walloping at the hands of Leesburg. The contest was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Lecanto struggled afterwards.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Xena Bellamy, who scored 11 points along with eight blocks and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bellamy has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ijyana Edwards, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.

Leesburg found their leader in underclassman Saige McCloud, who scored 31 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which McCloud has scored at least a third of Leesburg's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariyana Hester, who scored 15 points.

Lecanto's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Leesburg, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lecanto on the road again on Monday and play against Belleview at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. As for Leesburg, they will challenge South Sumter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
