Basketball Preview: South Mountain Jaguars vs. North Canyon Rattlers
South Mountain is 3-0 against the Rattlers since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The South Mountain Jaguars will head out on the road to challenge the North Canyon Rattlers at 5:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (South Mountain is ranked 165th, while the Rattlers are ranked 177th).
Last Friday, South Mountain took a serious blow against the Chargers, falling 70-28. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Mountain in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now lost four in a row.
North Canyon was handed a 42-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against the Bulldogs on Thursday. North Canyon came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs and snuck past 38-35. The victory was just what North Canyon needed coming off of a 62-20 defeat in their prior game.
South Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for North Canyon, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
South Mountain was able to grind out a solid win over the Rattlers when the teams last played back in January, winning 56-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Mountain since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
