Gibault Catholic proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Red Bud Musketeers 9-8. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Musketeers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Dante Gianino looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Peyton Schaefer, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Frierdich, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Gibault Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Gibault Catholic's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-11. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Red Bud, with the loss, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibault Catholic will square off against Okawville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Red Bud, they will challenge Carlyle at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
