Baseball Game Preview: Maria Carrillo Pumas vs. American Canyon Wolves

The Maria Carrillo Pumas will face off against the American Canyon Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

American Canyon will be up against a hot Maria Carrillo team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Maria Carrillo walked away with an 11-8 win over Vintage on Wednesday.

Norman Shinn looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zach Brandt, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Noah Harris was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask American Canyon). Everything went their way against Armijo on Wednesday as American Canyon made off with a 15-5 victory.

Noah Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season.

In other batting news, Mason Harris and Matthew Schmaling did most of the damage at the plate: Harris scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-4, while Schmaling scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Cole Gholar, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Maria Carrillo's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for American Canyon, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
