Softball Recap: Southwest Louisiana Homeschool's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak on the Road

If Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool was feeling good fresh off their 17-2 takedown of Cajun Christian Athletics last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool fell just short of the Good Samaritan HomeSchool Hornets by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The contest marked Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool's lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Eliza Long was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Alyse Sistrunk was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one double.

Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Good Samaritan HomeSchool, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Acadiana Christian at 6:00 p.m. on March 27th. As for Good Samaritan HomeSchool, they will host Bob Hope at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Good Samaritan HomeSchool's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Bob Hope has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
