Basketball Recap: Waterbury Career Academy Takes a Loss

Waterbury Career Academy managed to keep up with Oxford until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Waterbury Career Academy Spartans came up short against the Oxford Wolverines, falling 61-38. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wolverines from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Waterbury Career Academy still got an impressive performance from Malinna Figueroa, who posted 17 points. Figueroa's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malahzia Weaver, who earned nine points.

Waterbury Career Academy now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Oxford, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.

Waterbury Career Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-29 win against Derby on the 21st. Oxford has also already played their next contest, a 62-50 victory against Crosby on the 21st.
