Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon-Enola Comes Up Short

Mt. Vernon-Enola fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Atkins on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 9-8. The Warhawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Logan McNair was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. McNair was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

McNair wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jack Lawrence, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Lawrence has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Asher Adams was another, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Mt. Vernon-Enola's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Atkins, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon-Enola will venture away from home to challenge St. Joseph at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Atkins, they will take on Wonderview at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
