Baseball Preview: Central City/Centura Kernels vs. Arlington Eagles
The Central City/Centura Kernels will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Arlington Eagles at 1:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Monday, it was a hard-fought match, but Central City/Centura had to settle for a 7-6 defeat against Elkhorn.
Barrett Fries was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fries has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Fries was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Fries wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Gorecki, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, Central City/Centura was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with four doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhorn didn't hit any.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Arlington had to settle for a 4-3 loss against Gross Catholic on Monday. Arlington has not had much luck with Gross Catholic recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Blaine Vogt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Central City/Centura's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7. As for Arlington, their loss dropped their record down to 5-17.
