Baseball Recap: Whitmire Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Whitmire entered their tilt with Thornwell on Wednesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Thornwell Saints with a sharp 14-3 victory. With that win, the Wolverines brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Brian Steele was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-3. Whitmire is undefeated when Steele posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Crue Keller, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Whitmire always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .588 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Whitmire pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Thornwell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Whitmire will challenge Newberry at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Whitmire knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Newberry likes a good challenge. As for Thornwell, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Whitmire at 6:00 p.m.
