Baseball Recap: Madison Comes Up Short

Madison entered their contest against Unicoi County on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Patriots took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 19-9 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Madison saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Shelton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Shelton has become a key player for the Patriots: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

Madison's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Unicoi County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.

Madison and Unicoi County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in their respective state rankings. The Patriots (ranked 300th) will meet North Henderson (ranked 95th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Unicoi County will take on Daniel Boone at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (97 vs. 26).
