Baseball Preview: Perquimans Pirates vs. Gates County Red Barons

The Perquimans Pirates will challenge the Gates County Red Barons at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Perquimans is returning to their home field after beating Martin County on theirs, despite the fact Martin County has dominated at home this season. The Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Gators on Thursday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Gators recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Maddux Thach made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Thach was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Thach wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Coley Drew, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Gates County posted their closest win since March 26, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Bertie 3-2.

Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Perquimans, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.
