Softball Recap: Oviedo Has No Trouble Against Wekiva

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Oviedo walked away with it. They blew past the Wekiva Mustangs 17-3 on Tuesday. Considering the Lions' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Maile Dunn made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Dunn was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Avery Madden and Scarlett Griffiths did most of the damage at the plate: Madden went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one double, while Griffiths went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four runs gave Madden a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ansley DeVos, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.

Oviedo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Oviedo's victory bumped their record up to 4-21. As for Wekiva, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Oviedo will square off against Lake Howell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Silverhawks will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. Wekiva does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
