Basketball Game Preview: Decatur Bulldogs vs. Lakeside Vikings

Two dominant guards in Jason Welborn and Kareem Hopkins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Decatur Bulldogs will head out to take on the Lakeside Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Decatur has three straight victories, Lakeside has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Decatur is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came out on top against Chamblee by a score of 66-58 on Tuesday.

Welborn was his usual excellent self, going 10 of 18 on his way to 29 points and eight rebounds. The contest was his third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Howson, who posted 13 points in addition to six assists and six boards.

Meanwhile, Lakeside was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 42-37 to Dunwoody. The game marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Decatur will need focus on slowing down Hopkins, one of several Lakeside players who made an impact when they last played. He had 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Bennion, who posted eight points.

The win got Decatur back to even at 5-5. As for Lakeside, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Decatur has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.6 boards per game.
