Softball Recap: Auburn Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

Auburn had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Benjamin Russell Wildcats, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since March 5th.

Lily Brewer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Abigail Helms, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Daley Alsobrook was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Auburn pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Benjamin Russell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10-1 record this season.

Auburn didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-6 loss against Fairhope on the 28th. As for Benjamin Russell, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Calera at 5:00 p.m.
