Basketball Game Preview: Lund Mustangs vs. Owyhee Braves

Lund is 0-7 against Owyhee since February of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Lund Mustangs will square off against the Owyhee Braves at 8:00 p.m. Lund will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Last Saturday, Lund beat Wells 48-40.

Owyhee hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They walked away with a 52-45 victory over McDermitt on Friday.

Lund better keep an eye on Rolando Espitia. He was instrumental in Owyhee's win, almost dropping a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hunter Smart, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 13 points along with six boards and three steals.

Owyhee pushed their record up to 8-14 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 34.9% in those games and 23.6% outside of them. As for Lund, their record is now 12-15.

Things could have been worse for Lund, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-47 loss to Owyhee in their previous meeting two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Espitia, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 19 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Now that Lund knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
