Basketball Recap: Fairmont Senior Comes Up Short

Fairmont Senior and Elkins squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Fairmont Senior had to settle for second. They received a blow as they fell 66-52 to the Elkins Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-30 back in December of 2024.

Maddie Belan was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 33 points and 11 rebounds for Elkins. Belan's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Madi Zirkle, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Fairmont Senior dropped their record down to 7-16 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Elkins, their record is now 13-10.

Fairmont Senior does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Elkins, they will take on East Fairmont at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Fairmont will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Elkins surely won't give up without a fight.
