Baseball Game Preview: Carlmont Scots vs. Capuchino Mustangs

For the second straight game, Carlmont will face off against Capuchino. The Scots will challenge the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Carlmont fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Capuchino on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-6. Scots fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Mustangs since on Wednesday.

For Capuchino's part, John Ferreira tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Ferreira has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Travis Ciardella was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Gomez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Capuchino was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.

Capuchino is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Carlmont, they moved to 9-10 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
