Football Recap: Round Valley Elks vs. Show Low Cougars
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Round Valley). Everything went their way against the Show Low Cougars on Thursday as the Round Valley Elks made off with a 41-15 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Elks.
Kage Finch was his usual excellent self, throwing for 279 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76% of his passes, and also rushing for 49 yards. Connor Lueker was another key player, gaining 92 total yards and two touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Round Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 258 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Show Low only rushed for 151.
Round Valley's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged four passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Lueker and Jeffrey Cochran.
Despite the loss, Show Low still got an impressive performance from Jett Walker, who rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns.
Round Valley now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Show Low, their defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.
Round Valley will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Payson at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Round Valley: 16, Payson: 14.8) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Show Low, they will host Thatcher at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Thatcher's defense has only allowed 11.8 points per game this season, so Show Low's offense will have their work cut out for them.
