Baseball Game Preview: Cherokee Chiefs vs. Gate City Blue Devils

The Cherokee Chiefs will take on the Gate City Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cherokee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Cherokee is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of West Ridge.

Manning Brooks put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Cherokee is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-9 otherwise. Brooks was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Gate City made easy work of Richlands on Monday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Blue Tornado: they've now won four in a row.

Gate City got a massive performance out of Zachary DePriest, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Brayden Cox was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Cherokee's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Gate City, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0-1.

Cherokee skirted past Gate City 9-8 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will Cherokee repeat their success, or does Gate City has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
