Softball Preview: Stevenson Patriots vs. Hersey Huskies
The Stevenson Patriots will venture away from home to take on the Hersey Huskies at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Stevenson will be looking to extend their current 16-game winning streak.
While Stevenson's victory against Warren Township wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Blue Devils on Wednesday.
Ava Potempa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Jepson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Alyssa Shimanski was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, while Hersey put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Wheeling. The Huskies blew past the Wildcats 18-0. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won 11 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Hersey has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Stevenson, they pushed their record up to 23-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road.
