Basketball Recap: Union County Piles Up the Points Against Southwestern

Union County came into Saturday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They breezed by the Southwestern Spartans to the tune of 58-30 on Saturday. That 28 point margin sets a new team best for the Patriots this season.

Union County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nick Watterson, who went 9 for 13 on his way to 23 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Coyle, who went 8 of 14 en route to 21 points and six boards.

Union County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Union County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Southwestern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-9.

Union County will take on Centerville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Centerville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Southwestern, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Waldron at 7:30 p.m. Waldron is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.
