Softball Recap: Vallejo Redhawks vs. Richmond Oilers
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Vallejo and Richmond had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Redhawks blew past the Oilers 23-6 on Wednesday. Considering the Redhawks have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Maddie Melgoza was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Vallejo got a massive performance out of Sofi Valdez, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave Valdez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Roxanna Villareal, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
Vallejo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They are 5-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
