Basketball Game Preview: Maplewood Panthers vs. Pearl-Cohn Firebirds

The Maplewood Panthers will square off against the Pearl-Cohn Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Maplewood is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Hunters Lane to the tune of 63-30 on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pearl-Cohn, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 56-37 victory over Overton on Thursday.

Pearl-Cohn pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 45.5 points. As for Maplewood, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-5.

Maplewood came up short against Pearl-Cohn in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, falling 47-39. Can Maplewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
