The Wolcott RVT Wildcats will challenge the Bassick Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wolcott RVT has five straight wins, Bassick has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Wolcott RVT and Northwestern Regional, and Wolcott RVT kept the tradition alive. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Highlanders with a sharp 8-2 victory on Tuesday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Damian Webb made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Wolcott RVT got a big performance out of Brody Nadeu, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Nadeu has posted over his last nine matchups. Devon Schmitt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Wolcott RVT was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwestern Regional only posted a batting average of .045.
Meanwhile, Bassick didn't have quite enough to beat Wright Tech on Monday and fell 5-3.
Wolcott RVT's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bassick, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.
Wolcott RVT took their win against Bassick in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 19-0 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
