Baseball Game Preview: Crown Point Bulldogs vs. Lake Central Indians

For the second straight game, Crown Point will face off against Lake Central. The Bulldogs will host the Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Crown Point 2, Lake Central 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Crown Point is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Lake Central just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Lake Central's part, they got a great performance from Josh Flores as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Flores has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Kosteba, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Dylan Hein, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Lake Central's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Crown Point, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 19-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Crown Point has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lake Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts.
