Softball Preview: Hope Christian Huskies vs. St. Michael's Horsemen

Hope Christian has gone 8-2 against St. Michael recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Huskies will head out to take on the Horsemen at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Hope Christian and Del Norte, and Hope Christian kept the tradition alive. The Huskies were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Knights on Tuesday.

Iliana Cordova made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Cordova was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Ava Jimenez was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hannah Pruett, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Hope Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Norte only posted an OBP of .320.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Michael's). They put the hurt on East Mountain with a sharp 26-5 win on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Horsemen sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Aaliyah Gallegos was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Jaslene Ramirez was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

St. Michael's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.1 runs over those games. As for Hope Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hope Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .589. However, it's not like St. Michael's struggles in that department as they've averaged .582. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
