Recap: St. Mary's Cardinals vs. Bloomfield Bees

Make it eight blowout wins for the St. Mary's Cardinals this season. Everything went their way against Bloomfield on Monday as St. Mary's made off with a 65-40 victory. Given St. Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Bloomfield is ranked 189th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Mary's to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mya Hedstrom, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Hedstrom is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alissa Brabec, who scored 16 points along with three steals.

Despite the loss, Bloomfield still got an impressive performance from Madison Abbenhaus, who scored 19 points. That was a full 47.5% of Bloomfield's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

The victory was the fourth in a row for St. Mary's, bringing their record for this year to 11-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Bloomfield, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will take on Creighton at TBD on Tuesday. Creighton is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. As for Bloomfield, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Wausa. Hopefully Wausa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on January 6th.
