Basketball Recap: Rio Grande Ravens vs. Cibola Cougars
The Rio Grande Ravens's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their eighth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 66-41 walloping at the hands of Cibola. Rio Grande was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Rio Grande lost, one person who can't be blamed is Santiago Gonzalez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 68.3% of Rio Grande's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Rio Grande's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Cibola, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rio Grande will take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Albuquerque presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Ravens in New Mexico (the Bulldogs are ranked 17th, while the Ravens are ranked 65th). As for Cibola, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rio Rancho knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully the Cougars like a good challenge.
