Baseball Recap: Hueneme Drops Highest Score of Season Against Malibu

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hueneme). Everything went their way against the Malibu Sharks on Friday as Hueneme made off with a 16-2 win. The Vikings have beaten the Sharks the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Sharks has come to flipping the script.

George Rodriguez tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Hueneme is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Hueneme got a massive performance out of Joseph Pena, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5. Pena has become a key player for Hueneme: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Walter Nickerson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Hueneme kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Hueneme's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Malibu, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-9.
