Basketball Recap: Stratford Comes Up Short

Stratford was the 57-43 winner over Timberland when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Stratford Knights were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 64-63 to the Timberland Wolves. The Knights' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Despite the loss, Stratford saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Herman Smith posted 17 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Peterson, who had 13 points and five rebounds.

Stratford's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Timberland, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stratford will welcome Academic Magnet at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Stratford is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season. Timberland and Berkeley will compete for holiday cheer at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Berkeley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Timberland likes a good challenge.
