Basketball Recap: Alex Thompson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grassfield over Highland Springs

Grassfield and Highland Springs squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Grassfield had to settle for second. They fell to the Highland Springs Springers 66-60. The Grizzlies have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Several Grizzlies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Thompson, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Thompson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Khadijah Rashid, who went 7-for-13 on her way to 15 points and eight boards.

Highland Springs had a senior duo take command as Samaya Brown posted 20 points and Brianna Shelton put up 15 points.

Grassfield's defeat dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Highland Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Grassfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Highland Springs, they will take on Manchester at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Manchester will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Highland Springs surely won't give up without a fight.
