Joey Arend gave up the fewest walks he has since back in May of 2024 on Thursday. He turned in nothing short of a gem, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

Arend's strong effort led St. Charles East over Batavia and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Fighting Saints are 8-2 against the Bulldogs going back to May of 2022, a lead they'll look to extend.
