Baseball Game Preview: San Marino Titans vs. South Pasadena Tigers

The San Marino Titans will challenge the South Pasadena Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games San Marino has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Monday, it was close, but San Marino sidestepped El Rancho for a 6-4 win. That's two games straight that the Titans have won by exactly two runs.

Caleb Newton looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chase Mena, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Parker Wilson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, South Pasadena was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Monrovia, falling 7-1.

South Pasadena saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Vogel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

San Marino's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for South Pasadena, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

San Marino came out on top in a nail-biter against South Pasadena when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will San Marino repeat their success, or does South Pasadena has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
