Mathis has won three straight games at home, while West Oso has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Pirates will host the Bears at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mathis came out on top against George West on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fourth inning. The Pirates blew past the Longhorns 20-1. The contest marked the Pirates' most dominant victory of the season.

The team relied heavily on Audrey Salinas, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marivel Martinez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and one stolen base.
Mathis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while West Oso put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Odem. The Bears were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Owls.
Genesis Gallegos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Alexus Ayala and Christine Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Ayala got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Ayala has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aubrianna Tijerina-Lopez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Mathis' win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for West Oso, their victory bumped their record up to 19-2-1.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mathis has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .572. However, it's not like West Oso struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mathis couldn't quite finish off West Oso in their previous meeting back in March and fell 6-4. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
