Volleyball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Carey

Carey hadn't done well against Mohawk recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Blue Devils skirted past the Warriors 3-2. The game was the first time the Blue Devils have beaten the Warriors on their court since October 27, 2022.

Carey had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 24-26, 28-26, 30-28, 15-12.

Rylie Stoops paced Carey's offense, picking up 20 kills. Stoops got some help from McKinnley Kessler and her 34 assists. Finally, Abbi Seager kept Carey's defense grounded, leading the team with seven blocks.

When it comes to explaining why Mohawk lost, don't look at Emerson Gurney. Despite the final result, she had 30 digs and two aces. Gurney has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last three times she's played. Elise Meyer also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

The win was the fourth in a row for Carey, bringing their record up to 5-2. As for Mohawk, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carey will take on Riverdale at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mohawk, they will challenge Bucyrus at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
