Basketball Game Preview: Brandon Blackhawks vs. Corunna Cavaliers

The Brandon Blackhawks will take on the Corunna Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Brandon has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with eight straight losses, while Corunna will come in with three straight victories.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 87-10, which was the final score in Brandon's tilt against Goodrich on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Blackhawks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Brandon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ella Rizzo posted five points and three steals. Rizzo has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

While Corunna didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Clio 47-10. The Cavaliers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 27 points or more this season.

Corunna pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Brandon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Brandon came up short against Corunna when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 42-38. Can Brandon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
