Preview: Skyview Wolverines vs. Aurora Central Trojans
Skyview is 4-0 against Aurora Central since February of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Skyview Wolverines will head out on the road to square off against the Aurora Central Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Skyview posted their biggest win since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Thornton 72-25 on the road. Given Skyview's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Thornton is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Skyview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jada Kemm led the charge by scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Yzabella Tafoya was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Hinkley on the road to the tune of 68-7. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Aurora Central had established a 51 point advantage.
Jamaea Johnson Gonzalez and Alayna McClain were among the main playmakers for Aurora Central as the former dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds and the latter scored 27 points along with six rebounds and six steals. McClain is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Andena Torres, who scored eight points along with four steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Skyview and bumps their season record up to 12-3. As for Aurora Central, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Skyview have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 39.9% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Aurora Central, though, as they've only made 27.6% of their threes per game this season. Given Skyview's sizeable advantage in that area, Aurora Central will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Skyview against Aurora Central in their previous meeting on January 9th as the squad secured a 62-10 victory. With Skyview ahead 32-5 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
