Basketball Recap: Pierce Bears vs. Yreka Miners
Pierce and Yreka squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Pierce had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Yreka Miners, falling 76-49. If the Bears were looking for revenge after losing 67-43 to them when the teams met back in December of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jr Figueroa, who posted nine points and four steals. Saul Garcia was another key player, putting up nine points.
Trevan Crane was his usual excellent self, earning 19 points for Yreka. Crane's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Hale, who scored 14 points.
Pierce has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-18 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Yreka and bumps their season record up to 12-17.
Pierce does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Yreka, they will face off against Orland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Yreka's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
