MaxPreps Midwest Top 25 high school football rankings

Colerain, St. Edward remain top two, while Kimberly, Hilliard Davidson and Boylan make first appearance in rankings.

Four new teams enter this week's rankings as the playoffs continue, with Ohio powers Colerain (Cincinnati) and St. Edward (Lakewood) holding down the top two spots.

MaxPreps Midwest Top 25 Football Rankings

1. (Last week 1) Colerain (Cincinnati) 11-0
The Cardinals made five interceptions while opening the Division I state tournament with a 41-14 victory over previously once-beaten Springboro. Junior Jordan Asberry ran six times for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Kelvin Cook ran eight times for 100 yards and one touchdown while passing for two more scores.

2. (2) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) 9-1
The Eagles soared past Shaker Heights 49-0 in their Division I state playoff opener as Andrew Dowell ran 18 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Brett Kean passed for three touchdowns and ran for one and Pat Riley made a pair of interceptions.
Next: Saturday vs. Cleveland Heights in the second round at Parma Byers Field



3. (3) Cass Tech (Detroit) 11-0
The Technicians stretched their winning streak to 17 games with a 28-19 victory over previously unbeaten Warren Mott to win the Division I district title. Junior Mike Weber ran 15 times for 77 yards and one touchdown and also scored on an 88-yard kickoff return.
Next: Saturday vs. No. 17 Dakota (Macomb) in the Division I region final.

4. (4) Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) 11-0
The Warriors won the Division 2 district title with a 34-7 victory over Seaholm (Birmingham) as Alex Malzone completed 17 of 22 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. Corey Lacanaria caught six passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior Sam Hubbard made a pair of interceptions to help the Crusaders defeat St. Xavier (Cincinnati) 42-17 in their Division I state playoff opener. Gus Ragland again was dominant on offense, running 18 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns and completing scoring passes of 81 and 55 yards to Isaiah Gentry.
Next: Saturday vs. Elder (Cincinnati) in the second round at the University of Cincinnati

6. (6) Montini (Lombard, Ill.) 11-0
Alex Wills completed 17 of 27 passes for 275 yards and five touchdowns as the Broncos defeated Marian Central Catholic (Woodstock) 40-7 during the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
Next: Saturday vs. Joliet Catholic Academy in the third round

7. (7) Blue Springs (Mo.) 11-0
The Wildcats shut out Blue Springs South 40-0 during the second round of the Class 6 state playoffs. Dalvin Warmack ran 17 times for 210 yards and three touchdowns, while Ian Brown completed 12 of 17 passes for 147 yards and a pair of scores.
Next: Friday vs. Lee's Summit in the Class 6 quarterfinals

8. (8) Eden Prairie (Minn.) 10-0
The Eagles flew past Lakeville North (Lakeville) 42-14 in the Class 6A state quarterfinals as Dan Fisher ran 21 times for 187 yards and three touchdowns.
Next: Friday vs. Totino-Grace (Fridley) in the 6A semifinals at the Metrodome



9. (9) Penn (Mishawaka, Ind.) 12-0
Tyler Carpenter ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns to help the Kingsmen defeat Lake Central (St. John) 33-6 and win the Class 6A regional.
Next: Friday at Carmel in the 6A semifinals

10. (10) Mount Carmel (Chicago) 10-1
The Caravan dealt St. Rita (Chicago) its second loss, 20-15, in the second round of the Class 7A state playoffs. University of Illinois recruit Matt Domer carried 30 times for 248 yards and the winning 10-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Jimmy Mickens scored twice on short runs.
Next: Saturday at Downers Grove North in 7A quarterfinals

11. (11) Loyola Academy (Wilmette, Ill.) 10-1

The Ramblers had seven sacks and forced four turnovers while blanking Notre Dame (Niles) 24-0 in the second round of the Class 8A state playoffs. Julius Holley ran for 109 yards and scored once.
Next: Saturday vs. Maine South (Park Ridge) in the third round

12. (12) Glenbard West (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) 10-1
The Hilltoppers made seven sacks and caused three turnovers en route to their tenth straight victory, a 34-7 verdict against Conant (Hoffman Estates) in the second round of the Class 7A state playoffs. Devante Toney ran for 178 yards and two touchdowns, with Scott Andrews adding 126 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
Next: Friday at Schaumburg in the third round

13. (13) Dowling (West Des Moines, Iowa) 12-0
The Maroons won twice last week, beating Southeast Polk (Pleasant Hill) 38-14 on Monday and once-beaten Waukee 14-9 on Friday in the Class 4A state quarterfinals. Ryan Boyle ran for 179 yards and three touchdowns in the first game, while he passed for 147 yards in the second contest. Luke DeVenney added a touchdown on a 90-yard punt return.
Next: Friday vs. Valley (West Des Moines) in the 4A semifinals at the Uni-Dome in Cedar Falls

14. (14) Austintown-Fitch (Youngstown, Ohio) 11-0
Junior Antwan Harris ran 20 times for 198 yards and one touchdown to lead the Falcons to a 31-21 victory over Marysville in their Division I state playoff opener.
Next: Saturday vs. Westerville Central in second round at Mansfield Arlin Field



15. (15) Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) 11-1
The Trojans forced four turnovers to hand then No. 24-ranked Southport (Indianapolis) its first loss by a resounding 56-14 margin to win the Class 6A regional. Luke Calvert set the pace by passing for 147 yards.
Next: Friday vs. Warren Central (Indianapolis) in the 6A semifinals

16. (19) St. Vincent-St. Mary (Akron, Ohio) 11-0
The Fighting Irish made four interceptions and won their 17th consecutive game with a 52-7 rout of Kenston in their Division III state playoff opener. Ohio State recruit Parris Campbell ran 12 times for 110 yards and three touchdowns and also scored on a 28-yard pass.
Next: Friday vs. Poland Seminary in the second round at Ravenna Gilcrest Field

17. (18) Dakota (Macomb, Mich.) 11-0
The Cougars whipped Chippewa Valley (Clinton Township) 34-14 in the second round of the Division I state playoffs. Maurice Moon ran for 130 yards and one touchdown, while Tyler Crowell passed for 155 yards and one score.
Next: Saturday at No. 3 Cass Tech (Detroit) in the Division I region final

18. (NR) Kimberly (Wis.) 12-0
The Papermakers cut down previous No. 16 Homestead (Mequon) by an impressive 37-7 margin — snapping a 17-game winning streak — in the Division 2 state quarterfinals. Sophomore Blair Mulholland ran 24 times for 119 yards and three touchdowns, while Scott Schreiber — the 2012 State Baseball Player of the Year — ran for one touchdown and passed for another.
Next: Friday vs. Waukesha West at West Bend in the Division 2 semifinals

19. (NR) Hilliard Davidson (Hilliard, Ohio) 11-0
The Wildcats clawed Miamisburg 48-7 in their Division I state playoff opener as D.D. Clark ran 19 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Phillipie Motley ran just five times, but gained 104 yards, scored twice and added a third touchdown on a pass reception.
Next: Saturday vs. Pickerington North in the second round at Gahanna Lincoln Stadium

20. (22) Lake Zurich (Ill.) 10-1
The Bears blanked Hononegah (Rockton) 20-0 during the second round of the Class 7A state playoffs as the defense yielded just 154 yards. Colton Wagner caught a pair of 12-yard touchdown passes from Noah Allgood.
Next: Saturday at Wheaton North (Wheaton) in the third round



21. (21) Lincoln (Sioux Falls, S.D.) 10-0
The Patriots recovered five fumbles en route to a 28-0 victory over O'Gorman (Sioux Falls) during the Class AAA state semifinals. Caden Quintanilla rushed 29 times for 118 yards and four touchdowns and Braxton Large made 10 tackles.
Next: Saturday vs. Roosevelt (Sioux Falls) for the AAA state title at the DakotaDome

22. (NR) Boylan (Rockford, Ill.) 11-0
The Titans edged Cary-Grove (Cary) 17-10 in the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs as Demry Croft passed for 101 yards and one touchdown and rushed for another 51 yards.
Next: Saturday vs. Prairie Ridge (Cyrstal Lake) in the third round

23. (23) Bishop Carroll (Wichita, Kan.) 10-0
The Golden Eagles soared past Newton 70-13 in their Class 5A state playoff opener behind the passing of Colton Howell (12-for-18 for 252 yards and four touchdowns) and the running of Denzel Goolsby (nine carries for 91 yards and two touchdowns).
Next: Friday vs. Salina South in the 5A quarterfinals

24. (NR) Omaha North (Neb.) 10-1
The Vikings bounced back into the Top 25 with a 21-5 victory over defending champion Millard North (Omaha) during the Class A state quarterfinals. Junior sensation Calvin Strong added to his own Class A state records by running 31 times for 153 yards and three touchdowns.
Next: Friday at Grand Island in the state semifinals

25. (25) Bismarck (N.D.) 11-0
The Demons extended their winning streak to 28 games with a 14-10 victory over Century (Bismarck) during the Class AAA state semifinals. Ricardo Galindo dominated with 35 carries for 237 yards and all scoring was done in the first 19 minutes.
Next: Friday vs. Fargo South (Fargo) for the AAA state title at the Fargodome

No. 16 Homestead (Mequon, Wis.) lost to Kimberly 37-7.
No. 17 Bolingbrook (Ill.) lost to Marist (Chicago) 21-7.
No. 20 Glenbard West (Carol Stream, Ill.) lost to Stevenson (Lincolnshire) 20-16.
No. 24 Southport (Indianapolis, ind.) lost to No. 15 Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) 56-14.

The Midwestern region includes all teams from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
